COVID-19 has changed which jobs are needed, how employers find people to hire and job interviews. Here are some tips for a more successful job search during these weird times. Use all available resources to find a job– Post your up-to-date resume on job sites and sign up for job alerts. LandrumHR can email or text job listings to you, and in most cases you can apply online. Go after every opportunity – COVID has changed the way we live and created a demand for different jobs. Instead of doing a job search for a certain job title or type, search all open jobs. You may be surprised at what is available. And you may find find a job and a new career that you had never thought of before. Network online. The days of going to a job fair may be on hold, but there are still opportunities to job search and network online. An updated LinkedIn page tells employers you are open to work. Employers search LinkedIn to find people who are job hunting. You can also link to your profile on job applications to offer more information about your job history. Virtual job fairs let you meet people who are hiring online and learn more about job openings. Consider jobs from home– When you are used to “going to work” every day, you may not have thought about working from home. But more and more companies are hiring people to work from home in jobs that used to be in offices or jobsites. However, only consider at-home work from trusted employers. There are many work-at-home scams that can waste your time and end up costing you money. Tips for video interviews – Part of the job search is the interview. Many employers are using video job interviews. Take time before your online job interview to test your technology and make sure everything is working. Dress like you are going to an in-person interview. Do your interview in a quiet place with a plain background such as a blank wall. The ups and downs of COVID can make it difficult to find a job you feel is a good fit for your skills, but this can also be a time to try something new, learn new skills and build your resume with more experience.
