LandrumHR Stands Out During Nationwide Payroll Software Vendor Outage

by Amie Remington, Esq., on March 18, 2021

For many years, we have contracted with the premier payroll software provider in the professional employer organization (PEO) industry, PrismHR. PrismHR is a nationwide, publicly traded company which provides payroll software services to over 160 PEO service providers throughout the US.

On February 28, 2021, PrismHR experienced a cybersecurity event that caused a disruption in service for all PEOs using its software, including LandrumHR.

PrismHR reports that it immediately engaged a cyber security firm which investigated and determined that there was no evidence of any unauthorized data use or theft. Instead, the cyber event limited users of the software, like us, from being able to access the software for several days.

We place high priority on business continuity and disaster planning so that when crisis strikes, we’re ready. With our headquarters in the Panhandle of Florida, it’s a requirement that we be prepared. That preparation coupled with our investments in a secure, separate backup system and advanced technology infrastructure enabled us to immediately respond to this situation and utilize data from our backup system to ensure employees received paychecks, which was our primary priority.

Throughout the incident, LandrumHR stayed in close contact with our clients and employees via email, messages in MyLandrumHR, phone calls, chats, etc. to keep everyone in the loop on the current status as the situation progressed. While we were optimistic about a swift resolution, we believe in the importance of full transparency and wanted to ensure you had the information needed to run your business and answer employee questions.

Now that the system has been restored, we are focused on learning everything we can from the experience and devising strategies we can apply to any event. When the unexpected happens, we hope this experience, while difficult for everyone, showed you - our clients and employees – that you can rely on us and our services no matter what.
